The Subconscious Self Portrait
2008
Oil on masonite
30″ x 42″ (frame included)
When people ask me what is my favorite painting, I often interpret that as what was my favorite one to paint. This piece is up there. It is not necessarily my favorite to look at or one that I think is my best. But, it for sure is one that I look back on as one of my funnest paintings. That feeling of letting go and allowing the paint, the color the brush to dictate the direction is liberating. The subconscious artist emerges and sometimes it has a life of it’s own. This is such a case.
